art of the cake stand

Dressing up the cake table and sweets station is becoming an important part of the reception set up. You can rent a stainless steel pedestal or plateau, but why not get creative and make a statement by dressing up your sweets with art. I love the themed idea of using a cake base that corresponds to the design of your wedding. After all, the cake station is a highlighted feature of your reception, and because you've spent all that money on the highly anticipated dessert, it makes perfect sense to display it with style!

for the musically inclined :: anthology {san diego}

I was in San Diego last Friday, participating in a logistics meeting with a client and the CM at the reception venue -- Anthology in Downtown San Diego, California. This is actually a "sneak peak" post, as we've got another wedding coming up -- day-of coordination on Sept 27, '09! I'm posting photos of this award-winning, phenomenal, yet quaint location, since it was my first time seeing it, and the fact that I was ecstatic about how "out-of-the-box" the venue is for a wedding reception! I'm always on the lookout for cool venues, and this is definitely one of them. Anthology hosts live music performances and events, complete with a performance stage, multiple screens to show footage, 3 levels of dining area with the third level open to the delights of Downtown San Diego, and full multi-media and sound capabilities. This wedding venue is totally perfect for the musically inclined. Stay tuned for our upcoming wedding!

Check out Anthology's site for upcoming events.

eat cake :: cake serving sets

You're searching for details like champagne flutes, a cake stand/base, cake serving sets, unity candles, but you're contemplating how much you really want to invest in these pieces. In my opinion, I think this is an area where you can be practical when it comes to expenses, unless you've already started a Lenox or Waterford Crystal collection, or have already fallen in love with that fancy Tiffany & Co. set. I found some cake serving sets that are sold in stores that most of us have access to; the sets have both modern and traditional designs, and are affordable and pricey. The cake serving set is a very small detail, but photographers zoom in to capture these two pieces, so spend some time finding the perfect match for your wedding.

Two more options: 1) You can register for these items for your engagement party or shower and use them on the wedding day. Or 2) Borrow the flutes and cake serving sets from family. It's a great way to pass along a wedding tradition shared within family and you save some $!

what's in your luggage?

Found this cake online via Bliss Tree. Not sure who designed and baked this, so if you know, please e-mail me and I'll apply the appropriate credit. Isn't it just darling? And they even have mini-luggages packaged in clear cake boxes ready to go! Love it.

wedding forecast by JM :: rebecca minkoff says "i do" … twice

"REBECCA MINKOFF SAYS 'I DO' … TWICE"
San Diego born, handbag extraordinaire, Rebecca Minkoff has made quite a name for herself at the vibrant age of 28. Models, socialites and celebrities have been spotted toting her imaginatively named bags such as "Crush," "Knocked Up," and the most popular "Morning After Bag."*

Last June, the designer said, “I Do,” to actor Gavin Bellour in the hills of Siena, Italy. Her beauty was unrivaled with a dress designed by none other than herself. The lucky bridesmaids were also gifted with clutches she personally created. Perhaps it’s a subtle introduction to her upcoming “I Do” bridal line which is set to launch this month. Bags from this collection will be made to order with any fabric allowing clients to ship their material of choice. A minimum run of eight is required but exact specifications as to the style and shape are unknown. Conveniently, maid of honor, best friend, and Lucky Magazine fashion news director, Jen Ford, will announce her launch date. I will surely be on the lookout!

stitching with love :: cotton bird designs

Hope everyone enjoyed the Labor Day holiday! I sure did! I'm back to work, blogging after a scrumptious lunch...but guess what I found on Etsy -- Cotton Bird Design's hand stitched cake toppers! I like her choice in fabrics and colors, the fact that they're made with awesome craftsmanship, and the fact that the design of the birds uses clean lines. They've also got this organic look to them.
